Phu Quy Island

Phu Quy is an island with an area of 16.5 km², located off the coast of South Central Coast, belonging to Phu Quy island district, Binh Thuan province. From Kega Lighthouse Resort you go about 25km to Phan Thiet, then, from Phan Thiet port continue to take the boat to move across about 56 nautical miles. If traveling by high speed boat, it only takes you 3 hours to reach the island. Or if you choose to go by normal boat, you may take 6-7 hours for this crossing. 


 

 

Normally, boats to Phu Quy island are available daily at Phan Thiet port, however, depending on the weather and the tide or the rough seas, the schedule can be changed accordingly. In the morning, there is a boat to the island at 8 am and 11am at noon. The best time that you should consider for visiting Phu Quy island is from March to May. 
Phu Quy island has a natural beauty and has not been much affected by human. This place will be an ideal place for those who love the peace and tranquility of nature. Phu Quy is an ideal island to welcome a new day with a bright sunrise or wander in the beach to watch sunset. 

 

 

Watching the sunset on Phu Quy island is an experience anyone coming here should not be missed. There are many beautiful sunset views on the island such as: Ngu Phung revetment, Thay Nai palace, Trieu Duong bay, ... but the most beautiful and popular sunset viewpoint is at the top of Linh Son Pagoda. Because from here you can see the panoramic view of the island and the horizon, where when the sun comes down, it will create orange hues in the sky, looking very spectacular. 

 

 

Going to Phu Quy island without hiring a small boat to visit small islands along Phu Quy island, the trip to Phu Quy will not be considered as a complete experience. The island has many islands such as Hon Islet, Black Islet, Egg Islet, ... Sitting on a boat floating through the small islands, you can clearly see the purity of the sea water here. And if you rent a glass bottom boat, you will have a chance to explore the underwater paradise without getting wet. You can easily rent a small boat in the harbor for about 300,000 - 400,000 VND depending on the number of people seated. 

 

 

Because it has not been exploited too much, Phu Quy is still wild and natural with its clean beach, clear water, poetic and charming surroundings. The golden sand stretches endlessly, the blue water waves rush to the shore, the warm sunshine shines on the island, a feeling of tranquility and peace runs into your heart will sweep away go all your worries.The poetic beaches such as Bai Nho - Ganh Hang, Hon Tranh, Trieu Duong Bay, Mo Thay cape ... and colorful coral reefs and sea creatures in the clear water will make you unable to take your eyes off. 
Phu Quy has nearly 30 cultural relics with many different types of beliefs. However, the most prominent is Van An Thanh, located in Trieu Duong village, Tam Thanh commune, built in 1781 and is a "museum" of whales on the island. According to the local people, the whale, also known as Ong, has been helping the fishermen and boats many times when they were in trouble. There are many fishermen here who have been rescued by Ong fish and still live on the island, and most of the people in the island have respect for Ong fish. 
When Ong fish died and washed ashore on Phu Quy coast, it was solemnly held by the local people and every year there was Nghinh Ong festival. Visiting the Ong Hai Nam exhibit at Van An Thanh you will have the opportunity to see the whale skeleton which has a length nearly 20m, this is also one of the largest whale skeleton in Vietnam. 
The most famous dish of the island is Spanner Crab. This type of crab is big and heavy, about 500g - 1kg / crab. At first glance, it looks like a giant spider, with its fluffy fur. Due to the rarity and nourishment of this dish, since ancient times, Spanner Crab has been chosen as the dish to offered to the King. Therefore, coming to Phu Quy island you will have the opportunity to enjoy this delicious crab dish with the reasonable price from only 350,000 - 400,000 / 1kg.
