Kega Lighthouse

From Saigon, you can go backpacking to Phan Thiet and visit the ancient and legendary Kega Lighthouse. This lighthouse is also known as Khe Ga in Tan Thanh commune, Ham Thuan Nam district, Binh Thuan province. This is a tall tower lighting lamps for ships on the North-South maritime route in the South China Sea. Kega Lighthouse is confirmed as the tallest and oldest lighthouse, not only for Vietnam but also for Southeast Asia, built and completed by the French in 1889. To date, it has been over 130 years.

According to maritime history in this area, Mui Khe Ga is considered as an extremely dangerous position of the sea from Phan Rang to Vung Tau. From the previous centuries, many merchant ships traveled here and were wrecked due to unidentified coordinates and locations. In order to meet the transport needs of the French army as well as foreign merchant ships, the French have researched and built Khe Ga Lighthouse. During the construction of the lighthouse, many people died in construction accidents. At present, there is still a cemetery where is the resting place of those who died when constructing this project.

Around the base of the Lighthouse, there are two rows of frangipanis along the walkway planted by the French from the end of the last century until now, they spread shade all year round. Construction materials were brought from France, including a lamp on the top and a generator.
