Poshanu Cham Tower

Poshanu Cham Tower or Po Sah Inu is also called Pho Hai Cham Towers. This is a group of temple of the ancient Kingdom of Champa that still remains until now. The relic is located on Ba Nai Hill of Phu Hai Ward, about 7km from the center of Phan Thiet City to the northeast.

The tower was built in the 9th century, in the style of Hoa Lai - one of the most famous ancient art styles of Champa. Through many ups and downs of history, the ancient Poshanu tower is still being quite intact and most prominent among the remnants of the Cham people in Binh Thuan such as the Ba Chau Re - Ham Phu - Ham Thuan Bac, the group of Podam Phu Lac - Tuy Phong.

From Kega Lighthouse Resort, drive through Phan Thiet city center about 7km toward northeast, to Ba Nai hill, Phu Hai ward we will reach Poshanu tower. Poshanu Cham Tower was ranked by the Ministry of Culture as a national architectural in 1991, with unique and delicate architectural and artistic features, this tower has marked the flourishing period of the Champa kingdom and still also retain the unique of this typical architecture.

At the beginning of construction, Poshanu tower was built to worship Shiva, the powerful Indian god. However, the Cham people later built a place to worship Princess Poshanu, daughter of King Po Parachanh in the 14th century.

Although the size of the Poshanu tower is not as large and superficial as the other Cham towers, it contains the cultural essence of the ancient Cham people. It is the architectural and special decoration industry to create ancient, majestic works of the Chams. This cluster of monuments having the architectural style of Hoa Lai, such as being built of red bricks and mounted by a special adhesive, the doors of the towers have rolling arches, the tower’s shape shrinks when ascending. Main Tower A is 15m high, including 3 floors, the main door is facing to the East because the ancient Cham people believed that this was the residence of the gods. In the main tower, there was a living monolithic material - Linga - Yoni, made of monolithic black stone.

Tower C worships the God of Fire next to the main tower, with a door facing east. This is the smallest of the three towers, just over 4m high. A little further away is Tower B where Nandi (God of Cow) is worshiped. According to legend, the god of cow is the animal that Shiva rides. Basically, Tower B has the same shape as the main tower but is designed to be simpler, the tower is about 12m high.

Legend has it that the Cham tower was built to commemorate the love of Princess Poshanu, who helped guide people to cultivate, grow cotton tree and weave cloth, and she also taught people about the codes of conduct, progressive communication. ... Cham people have carved her statue and worshiped in the tower. In the biggest festival of Cham people following the Brahmanic religion every year, pilgrims from all over the country come here to beg her for a prosperous and happy season. Tourists from everywhere come here to visit, explore and admire traditional features of Cham culture. Especially, when visiting the Poshanu Cham Tower, tourists will have the opportunity to see many unique and fascinating Cham ceremonies.
